Dan Snyder Fund

On October 7, 2023, the Elmira Sugar Kings will be honouring Dan before their game with a moment of silence to remember his passing 20 years ago. As a family, we are grateful to our hockey family and community for their continued support.

On Oct. 5, 2003 we lost an exceptional son, brother, friend and role model to a tragic car accident. Dan Snyder was a hard worker, a fighter, and lived to fulfill his dream of playing in the National Hockey League. He was a spark in so many lives and the catalyst that got things going on and off the ice. While an undeniable tragedy, Dan’s passing has led to many positive legacies over the years since his death. One legacy was the establishment of the NHLPA Dan Snyder Memorial Student Award Fund. Another was the creation of the Dan Snyder Memorial Foundation.

Through the Dan Snyder Memorial Foundation, one of Dan’s dreams was realized; establishing the Dan Snyder Memorial Arena in his hometown of Elmira, ON. The foundation was also able to support many other local initiatives, including Tony Code Hockey School, Woolwich Thrashers Sledge Hockey, Woolwich Sun Rays Hockey, Elmira Boys Fastball Team, and numerous young athletes striving to reach their goals.

In 2019, the Dan Snyder Memorial Foundation joined forces with Waterloo Region Community Foundation and established the Dan Snyder Fund to make it easier to administer their community support. The Dan Snyder Fund has supported organizations such as: Woolwich Gymnastics Club, Friends of Hockey and Woolwich Community Services, as well as the Woolwich Wildcats and Woolwich Wild minor hockey teams.
