Angelo Longo Award

• Area(s) of post-secondary study: OYAP Automotive Service Technician Program or Truck and Coach Technician Program at Conestoga College, or Registered Nursing Program at any college or university.

• Criteria: Minimum of the last two (2) years in a Cambridge Secondary School, demonstrated commitment to the automotive program (if applicable) in their high school, and distinguished themselves technically.

• Eligible school(s): Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School & St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School

• Number of grants: Two (one from each school)

Anne and Allan McKay Award
This award was established in 2008 by Allan and Anne McKay’s five children, all graduates of Southwood, to honour their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, and to recognize the importance of post-secondary education.

• Area(s) of post-secondary study: Health Studies, Nursing, Pure Science, or the Performing Arts

• Criteria: Demonstrated financial need, personal statement from the nominated student explaining how the award will benefit and affect them. Residency in North Dumfries is considered a preference.

David & Denise Thomas and Family Award
This award was established by David & Denise Thomas in recognition of their three daughters, all of whom are graduates of Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School. The award recognizes Monsignor Doyle graduates who have taken the critical early steps to develop their skills as community leaders.

• Criteria: Significant and/or unique contributions within school athletics and in the community, demonstrated integrity in both student and personal life, confirmed enrollment in any college or university for the upcoming fall.

Dr. Ralph Adams Memorial Award
The Dr. Ralph Adams Memorial Award was established in memory of Dr. Ralph Adams, who was known for his commitment to his patients and dedication to serving the community. The award supports a student enrolled in a Health Sciences program. The student selected for this award must have achieved high academic standing, been involved in extracurricular activities both at school and in the community and demonstrated a sense of integrity during their high school years.

• Area(s) of post-secondary study: Health Sciences program

• Criteria: Achieved high academic standing, ongoing involvement in extracurricular activities in high school (i.e. sports, drama and music), volunteer involvement in the community, demonstrated a sense of integrity during high school. Financial need should be considered.

Elizabeth Pavey Multilingual Learner Award
The Elizabeth Pavey Multilingual Learner Award was established in 2020 to honour Libby Pavey, who was a teacher and guidance counsellor at Galt Collegiate Institute (GCI) for many years. She was passionate about her students and about their accomplishments after they left GCI. This scholarship will recognize a graduating student of GCI.

• Area(s) of post-secondary study: Any discipline

• Criteria: Completion of the requirements for OSSD, and is eligible to graduate from Galt Collegiate Institute, full-time enrollment in a program at college or university for the upcoming fall, current or prior enrollment in the English Language Learning Program after immigrating to Canada, demonstrated diligence in academic studies and a willingness to work hard to achieve a goal. The student may not have achieved the highest marks, but will have shown motivation and commitment.

George and Luella Egoff Award

• Area(s) of post-secondary study: Health Sciences program

• Criteria: Demonstrated persistent hard work to overcome financial or other obstacles, confirmed enrollment in college or university in a Health Sciences program for the upcoming fall.

• Eligible school(s): Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School & St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School

Hoegy Award
The Hoegy Award was established in 2016 to honour Helen Hoegy’s wishes to honour her husband Louis Hoegy and their late son Howard Hoegy. The award, in memory of Louis and Howard, will recognize a graduating student of Glenview Park Secondary School in Cambridge, who is pursuing a post-secondary education.

• Criteria: Completed the requirements for OSSD and eligible to graduate from Glenview Park Secondary School, enrolled in a full-time program at college or university for the upcoming fall, exhibited diligence in their academic studies and a willingness to work hard and achieve a goal.

Iris Mitten Award
This award was established in memory of Iris Mitten, by her family. Iris was a Cambridge resident and a lover of art.  Her art store, Gallery Iris, was a well-known source for paintings, framing and first nations sculpture.

• Criteria: A student who identifies as a girl who has achieved a level of academic success to suggest that they will be successful in their studies at the post-secondary level, has demonstrated a passion/talent for the visual arts (such as painting, drawing, or sculpture) throughout their high school career, has exceeded the minimum of 40 volunteer hours of community involvement activities, demonstrated exceptional commitment to their community, demonstrated that they deserve to be supported in their first year of post-secondary education (i.e. demonstrated financial need and/or persistent hard work to overcome financial or other obstacles)

Jennifer Sims Award

• Area(s) of post-secondary study: Any discipline

• Criteria: A graduating student who identifies as a girl in any high school in Cambridge and/or North Dumfries who is seeking to engage in full-time post-secondary studies at college or university, exhibited diligence in their academic studies and a willingness to work hard to achieve a goal, demonstrated financial need and/or persistent hard work to overcome financial or other obstacles, shown exceptional commitment to their studies, and achieved a high level of success.

• Eligible school(s): All Public & Catholic Secondary Schools in Cambridge and/or North Dumfries

• Number of grants: One

• Grant amount available in 2024: 1 x $500

R. L. Petersen Award
The R.L. Petersen Award is awarded to Cambridge Secondary School graduates who are enrolled full-time in a business program at a college or university and have demonstrated outstanding moral judgment in both their student and personal life, while also making a significant and/or unique contribution within their school, the community and with others. In addition, they will have demonstrated a sense of individuality and a level of academic success sufficient to suggest they will be successful in their future studies.

• Area(s) of post-secondary study: Any Business program (ex: Management Studies, Accounting, Entrepreneurial Studies, Human Resources, or Business)

• Criteria: Minimum of the last two (2) years in a Cambridge Secondary School, confirmed full-time enrollment in a business program at a college or university for the upcoming fall.

• Eligible school(s): All Public & Catholic Secondary Schools in Cambridge and/or North Dumfries, as well as Woodland Christian High School

• Number of grants: Up to eight

• Grant amount available in 2024: $6,600 total

Tim Walker Memorial Award
The Tim Walker Memorial Award is made possible through an endowed fund set up by Jim Walker and Stephanie Walker to honour the life of their son, Tim Walker. Tim was a loved Geography teacher at Southwood Secondary School.

• Criteria: Demonstrated persistent hard work to overcome financial or other obstacles, confirmed full-time enrollment at any college or university in an Environment or History program for the upcoming fall.
