Waterloo Region Community Foundation announces plan for Arts Grants funding in 2024

Plan to include funding to be distributed on behalf of the Region of Waterloo; with recruitment for new review Committee as part of the process to be followed.

WATERLOO REGION, ON (May 23, 2024) — Today, Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF) announced their plan for distributing $580,000 in 2024 to individual artists, arts collectives and organizations in Waterloo Region.

The funding includes approximately $250,000 for applying arts organizations through WRCF and several WRCF Fundholders and donors. It also includes $230,000 for applying individual artists and collectives and $100,000 for arts organizations, funded by the Region of Waterloo.

Applications for funding will open on August 6, 2024 and will close on September 16, 2024, with funds being distributed in November 2024. The guidelines, application form and other information will be shared during the last week of July at www.wrcf.ca/artsgrants.

Two volunteer Committees, comprised of people from the arts community across Waterloo Region, will develop the granting guidelines and application, review applications and recommend funding allocations for the Arts Grants Fund.

  • The Committee to review applications from arts organizations is an ongoing Committee of WRCF and membership is in place.

  • WRCF’s partnership with the Region is for one year to maintain support for artists while the Region completes a review of the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund model. WRCF is currently recruiting individuals from Waterloo Region’s arts community to join a Committee to review applications from individual artists and collectives. Members are being asked to join the Committee for a one-year term and would not be eligible to apply as an individual artist or collective if they sit on the Committee. About Waterloo Region Community Foundation
Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF) collaborates with partners to ensure our communities are equitable, connected, and sustainable; and people are thriving. We strengthen local organizations, spaces, and experiences to increase connection with communities across the three cities and four townships of Waterloo Region. We make philanthropy easy for individuals and companies to support organizations and issues they care about. WRCF is focused on Granting, Investing, and Mobilizing to make measurable and sustainable impacts. Gifts are directed to WRCF's endowed funds, with the income generated being distributed in partnership with Fundholders through grants and investments that support a wide range of charitable causes that drive positive change within our community. We are growing our assets in a socially-responsible way without compromising financial returns, and transitioning to a 100% mission-aligned portfolio. These investments include directing at least 10% of our portfolio to impact investments. As a leading community-building organization, we also work to amplify voices and issues of importance by mobilizing conversations and sharing information, which leads people to action, while approaching our work with an equity mindset. In 2024, WRCF is focused on improving social infrastructure in Waterloo Region. www.wrcf.ca
