The Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region (RCWR) is a completely volunteer run not-for-profit organization committed to increasing Waterloo Region’s capacity to support the Rainbow Community (also known as the 2SLGBTQ+ community). RCWR supports the start-up & growth of, and promotes collaboration between, grassroot groups, non-profit organizations, and other social enterprises, that provide services to the Rainbow Community in Waterloo Region.

The Amethyst Community Fund is named in memory of Cassie ”Amethyst” Bechard, one of the founders of RCWR, who was committed to building a community supportive of gender and sexual diversity for people of all ages in Waterloo Region. Once fully funded, RWCR will use the Amethyst Community Fund to provide financial support for collaborative projects and research that support the Rainbow Community in Waterloo Region, including (but not limited to):

• Partnerships between organizations with mandates/services that benefit the Rainbow Community; and

• Grassroot efforts that support intersectional identities within the Rainbow Community.
