The Leland and Thora Vance Fund - Recreation and Church Grants

Leland and Thora Vance were long-time residents of Wingham who genuinely cared about the people in their community. They wanted to continue to ensure that the community’s residents were supported even after their lifetime by providing a donation to set up a fund at Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF) that will generate income to provide grants to support projects that benefit Wingham residents forever.

In 2024, WRCF is launching grant applications for capital projects for the rehabilitation and maintenance of Churches and Recreational Spaces. Approximately $220,000 will be distributed to eligible organizations following the funding guidelines — with $85,000 specifically made available to Church organizations and $135,000 made available to support recreational facilities. Decisions will be in the hands of a committee of volunteer community members from Wingham and a representative from WRCF, who will review applications and make funding recommendations.

 

How can our organization apply?

The Leland and Thora Vance Fund accepted applications between August 19, 2024 and September 30, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. (EST). Applications are now closed.

 

Guidelines to help you apply

  • Funding must be used before November 30, 2025

  • Organizations receiving funding must be located in Wingham

  • Applications will be considered from:

    • Registered charitable organizations

    • Qualified donees recognized by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

    • Not-for-Profit  organizations  through a  partnership with a Fiscal Partner

      • This partnership allows WRCF to provide the Fiscal Partner with the funding on your behalf. If you plan to partner this way, they would be your organization’s “Fiscal Partner” for this funding. Download the Fiscal Partner form here

  • To determine if your organization is eligible, and to understand how the funding can be used, access the Funding Guidelines (pdf).
