Blessing Akpan joins Waterloo Region Community Foundation as Director, Community Impact

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Blessing Akpan as Director, Community Impact at Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF).

As the Director of Community Impact, Blessing is accountable for WRCF’s Granting Programs. She will also help drive the outreach and interaction with charitable and social purpose organizations for the purposes of granting/funding and attracting impact investees. In addition, Blessing manages opportunities to convene conversations and mobilize networks in order to generate ideas and actions to respond to current and emerging needs across our community.

Applications Now Open!

WRCF has three funding streams currently accepting applications. Click the links below for more information on eligibility requirements and how to apply:

Arts Grants Fund
$220,000 will be provided to emerging, small or medium sized arts organizations or collectives, that are located in Waterloo Region, and provide services and/or programming to people in Waterloo Region. 

Deadline: September 22, 2022

Racial Equity Fund
This funding will support organizations that are led-by and serve people across Waterloo Region who are Indigenous, Black and people of colour. $350,000 will be distributed, of which $125,000 is being provided through a partnership with the Astley Family Foundation towards initiatives supporting youth (12-24 years old).

Youth in Recreation Fund
$52,000 will be granted to organizations that encourage broad participation in healthy and safe community recreation activities for children and youth in Waterloo Region. Community recreation includes sport, fitness, youth leadership, camping/outdoor education, the arts and cultural activities.

LET'S GET DIGITAL: Unwrap Theatre reaches new audience, helps 'balance out the timelines' for racialized community during time of racial tension

Call for Applications: Two Funding Opportunities for Immigrant and Refugee Initiatives

The Waterloo Region Immigration Partnership is pleased to announce the launch of two open calls for support for initiatives that facilitate the welcoming, settling and integration of immigrants and refugees in Waterloo Region. Organizations, groups and individuals can now apply for support through the Immigration Partnership Fund for Immigrant and Refugee Initiatives and the Fund for Immigrant Economic Wellbeing. 
  1. Applications open for the Immigration Partnership Fund for Immigrant and Refugee Initiatives. Established at Waterloo Region Community Foundation as a signal of the welcoming community Waterloo Region strives to be, this fund will now support initiatives that facilitate the welcoming, settling and integration of Ukrainians fleeing war and Afghan and other refugees in the Region. Through the generosity of residents and businesses, there is currently $114,000 available in the Fund. With a focus on meeting the individual needs of refugee families arriving in the region, applications will be accepted and reviewed on a monthly basis until the Fund is exhausted.
     
  2. Applications open for the Fund for Immigrant Economic Wellbeing. This Fund targets initiatives that enhance the employment, entrepreneurship and economic wellbeing of immigrants in Waterloo Region. Supported through the Region of Waterloo’s Equity Fund, a total of $1 million is available for granting in 2022. Applications will be accepted until September 23, 2022.
