National Volunteer Week 2024

It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re celebrating with Volunteer Canada.

The National Volunteer Week theme for 2024 is “Every Moment Matters”. It highlights the importance of each volunteer and the contributions they make at a moment when we need support more than ever.

We could not do what we do across our community without our volunteers who support Waterloo Region Community Foundation (WRCF). As our community grows, they are helping ensure our communities are equitable, connected, and sustainable; and people are thriving.

At WRCF, our dedicated volunteers bring their time, skills, empathy, creativity, expertise, and insights to help us support people and organizations across Waterloo Region on a daily basis. Each contribution they make is strengthening our communities.

We asked Gary Abbott, a member of WRCF’s Children & Youth Committee, and Roshan James, a member of WRCF’s Community Grants Committee and Arts Grants Committee to share their thoughts on some of the benefits of volunteering with WRCF.

One of the greatest benefits is that you get exposed to so many different tremendous organizations and people that are doing such great work for the community. You get a little bit of an insider look into some of the initiatives and services provided.
— Gary Abbott
The benefits are that I feel like I know what’s happening in the region, I can have a voice, and make an impact. I’m not always going to be able to do all the things, but there are certain things that I care about a lot. So, I’ve contributed a voice to those conversations.
— Roshan James
